Saturday, May 7, 2005- TVFD responded to a report of a small grass fire on the shoulder of SH105 app. one mile west of Cypress Lakes. TVFD responded with Booster 55 with two firefighters to find Cypress Lakes VFD on location in the final stages of extinguishing a very small fire.
Thursday, May 5, 2005- At app. 1630, Tarkington firefighters were called to provide mutual aid to Daisetta VFD on a large grass fire on FM770. TVFD responded with Booster 55 with two firefighters. While enroute to that call, TVFD was dispatched to a forest fire off of SH105 app. two miles from the intersection with FM2518. Booster 55 was app. 1/2 mile from the call and responded. Upon arriving on location, Unit 502 requested a second alarm for more manpower and equipment. Booster 53 with one firefigther, Rescue 51 with one firefighter, andTanker 57 with two firefighters responded. The Texas Forestry Service was called to bring in a dozer to plow a containment line around the fire and Cypress Lakes VFD provided mutual aid with equipment and manpower.
Wednesday, April 27, 2005- At app. 1630, Tarkington VFD was called to a MVAon Davis Hill Road, app. five miles from FM2518. TVFD responded with Unit 501, Engine 54 with three firefighters, and Rescue 51 with one firefighter. TVFD arrived on location to find an older model station wagon had left the roadway and struck a tree. TVFD then used the vehicle extrication tools to remove the victim from the car. TVFD then responded with both units to the intersection of FM2518 and SH105 to set up a LZ for the LifeFlight helicopter to transport the patient. City of Cleveland EMS responded to provide patient care and transport the victim to the LZ.
As Tarkington firefighters were returning to the station, Cleveland VFD requested mutual aidon a structure fire off of FM1725 in the Pebble Creek addition. TVFD responded with Tanker 57 with two firefighters, and Rescue 51 with four firefighters. The fire was in a garage workshop and included two vehicles in the garage as well as several oxygen and acetylene bottles.
Mondday, April 25, 2005- TVFD was called to a mobile home fire. TVFD responded with Unit 501 to find a small fire in the kitchen. Cleveland VFD provided mutual aid on the call.
Sunday, April 24, 2005- Tarkington firefighters started off the day early when they were called to a possible gas leak on CR2201 north of FM787 at app. 0430. TVFD responded with Unit 502 and Engine 54 with four firefighters to find a leak in the equipment that injects the odorizer into the natural gas, not a gas leak itself.
At app. 0530, TVFD was dispatched to a MVA on FM787 between The Shade Grocery and the GP plant entrance. TVFD responded with Unit 502, Unit 505, Engine 54 with three firefighters, and Rescue 51 with one firefighter. TVFD arrived to find a Chevrolet pickup had struck a vehicle that had been abandoned in the roadway.
Friday, April 22, 2005- TVFD was called to a reported structure fire on Goat Road. TVFD responded with Unit 502 and Engine 54 with three firefighters to find a problem with the HVAC system had filled the home full of smoke. TVFD used the PPV fan to clear the home of smoke. City of Cleveland EMS was called to attend to the homeowner who was complaining of chest pains.
Wednesday, April 20, 2005- Tarkington VFD responded to a MVA on FM 787 app. one mile west of FM223. TVFD responded with Rescue 51 with two firefighters, Engine 54 with five firefighters, and Booster 55 with one firefighter. TVFD arrived on location to find two cars involved, a Ford Contour and a Nissan Altima. The driver of the Altima was taken by SkyMed helicopter to a Houston-area hospital. Engine 54 and Booster 55 setup a LZ for the helicopter on FM223 near FM787. City of Cleveland EMS also responded to the call, transporting the driver of the Altima to the LZ and the driver of the Contour to a local hospital.

Sunday, April 17, 2005- TVFD was called to provide mutual aid for Kenefick VFD on a structure fire. TVFD responded with Unit 502, Unit 503, Tanker 57 with two firefighters, and Rescue 51 with two firefighters. More information can be found on www.i-dineout.com.
Saturday, April 16th- Tarkington firefighters were dispatched to a fully-involved structure fire on Davis Hill Road, approximately 4 1/2 miles east of FM2518. TVFD responded with Unit 502, Engine 54 with four firefighters, Tanker 57 with two firefighters, and Rescue 51 with two firefighters. Unit 502 arrived on location to find a one-story wood-frame structure fully involved and proceeded to do a scene size-up and various initial tasks such as turning off the propane and cutting electrical power to the home by removing the meter. Upon Engine 54's arrival, two 1-1/2" attack lines were laid and firefighters began their initial attack. However, the water supply on Engine 54 was exhausted prior to the arrival of the next unit, Tanker 57, and firefighters had to retreat from the building. Upon Tanker 57's arrival, the attack was resumed. mutual aid was requested from Cleveland VFD, which responded with Tanker 48 and Engine 44, Hardin VFD, which responded with Engine 701, Cypress Lakes VFD, and City of Cleveland EMS. With additional manpower on-scene, Class A foam was used to finally extinguish this stubborn blaze. Approximately thirty firefighters fought the fire and nearly 7500 gallons of water were used. In the photo below, Assistant Chief Evert Doucette and firefighter Robert Faith initiate the attack at the front of the house while Captain Dalton Gregory pulls hose for firefighters Ryan "Tiny" Barnett and Jeremy Ellis to attack the side of the house.
