Saturday, January 15, 2005- Tarkington VFD responded to an MVA on Davis Hill Road app. 1/2 mile east of Davis Hill Baptist Church. TVFD arrived to find a 1994 Dodge pickup that had left the roadway and hit a tree. The driver and sole occupant of the pickup was trapped inside and had to be cut out using the "Jaws of Life." TVFD then responded to FM2518 and SH105 to set up a landing zone for the LifeFlight helicopter. Responding to the call were Unit 501 and Engine 54 with four firefighters. Later in the day, TVFD responded to a report of possible house fire in the Pine Meadows addition. TVFD responded with Unit 501, Unit 502, Engine 54 with three firefighters, and Tanker 57 with one firefighter to find that the fire was a controlled burn.
Friday, January 14, 2005- TVFD was dispatched to a house fire in Sam Houston Lake Estates. TVFD responded with Engine 54 with three firefighters and Tanker 57 with two firefighters. Upon arrival, Tarkington firefighters found a small house fully involved. Unfortunately, the road leading to the house was in very poor condition and was inaccessable by the apparatus. Engine 54 was sent back to the station and Booster 55 and Booster 53 were sent to the fire. Cleveland VFD provided mutual aid on the call.
Late in the evening on the 14th, TVFD was dispatched to a brush fire on FM787 app. 1/2 mile west of the intersection with FM2518. TVFD responded with Unit 501 and Booster 55 with two firefighters to what turned out to be a controlled burn.
Wednesday, January 12, 2005- Tarkington First Responders were called to a home off of Joe Edd Road in the early morning hours to find a male stroke-victim. TVFD was then dispatched to set up a landing zone for SkyMed at the Tarkington ISD football practice field. The patient was transported to Hermann Hospital where he is in recovery.
Tuesday, January 11, 2005- Tarkington firefighters were dispatched to a report of a water heater that had filled a manufactured home full of smoke. TVFD responded with Unit 502, Engine 54 and a total of seven firefighters to find that the hot water heater had caught the flooring underneath on fire. Fortunately, the homeowner was able to extinguish the fire before it spread. TVFD set up the positive pressure ventilation fan to remove the smoke from the home.
Friday, January 7, 2005- TVFD was dispatched to a report of smoke at the Tarkington Middle School. TVFD responded with Unit 502, Engine 54 and a total of six firefighters to find that a blower motor in the HVAC system had overheated. TVFD set up ventilation fans to clear the smoke from the building. Cleveland Fire Department was called to assist.
Friday, December 31, 2004- Tarkington firefighters ended the year being called to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of SH321 and SH105. TVFD responded with Unit 502, Engine 54, Rescue 51, Booster 55, and a total of seven firefighters. Tarkington firefighters arrived to find a Honda Civic that had been struck in the side by a Ford Thunderbird. Fortunately, there was only one occupant in the Civic, who was transported to a local hospital by City of Cleveland EMS.
