Saturday, June 18, 2005- At app. 17:30, Tarkington firefighters were called to a reported car fire on SH105 @ CR 2224. Unit 502 responded to find that the vehicle had burst a radiator hose.
At app. 20:30, Tarkington First Responders were called to assist City of Cleveland EMS. TVFD responded with Rescue 51 with two firefighters.
At app. 22:30, Tarkington First Responders were again called to assist City of Cleveland EMS, but were disregarded prior to going enroute.
Friday, June 17, 2005- Tarkington VFD was called to the scene of a MVA on SH321 and SH105 in front of the Citgo at app. 11:30. TVFD responded with Engine 54 with one firefighter, Rescue 51 with one firefighter, and Booster 55 with one firefighter to find a red Dodge Durango and a silver Mazda MPV involved in an accident. One occupant of the Durango was taken by City of Cleveland EMS to a local hospital.

At app. 18:00, TVFD was called to a MVA on SH321 just south of CR316. TVFD responded with Engine 54 with five firefighters and Booster 55 with two firefighters to find a green Honda Accord had left the roadway, ran along the treeline, and eventually ended back on the shoulder. City of Cleveland EMS transported one occupant to a local hospital.

Wednesday, June 15, 2005- Like most all Tarkington residents, TVFD was affected by the power outage striking Liberty and surrounding counties. Shortly after the beginning of the outage, TVFD responded to a reported structure fire on CR2801, responding with Unit 502, Unit 503, and Engine 54 with three firefighters. Tarkington firefighters then went into stand-by mode at the station should further calls arise.
At app. 19:00 a First Responder call was dispatched across from the Shade Grocery on FM787. TVFD responded with Rescue 51 with two firefighters.
At app. 22:00, a call was received for a brush fire in the Pinecrest area. TVFD responded with Unit 502, Booster 55 with two firefighters, Engine 54 with four firefighters, and Rescue 51 with four firefighters.
Tarkington VFD also fielded numerous calls at the station, plus several drive-ups, all asking for more information concerning the power outage.
Monday, June 13, 2005- At app. 05:30, Tarkington firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire near Gaylor Lake. TVFD responded with Booster 55 with two firefighters, Engine 54 with four firefighters, and Unit 503 to find that a large trash dump had been burning, igniting the surrounding area.
At app. 12:30, TVFD was called to a report of smoke alarms going off at a residence on FM787 near the entrance to the GP plant. TVFD responded with Unit 502 and Engine 54 with five firefighters.
At app. 13:15, TVFD was called back to the location of the brush fire near Gaylor Lake. TVFD TVFD responded with Booster 55 with two firefighters and Engine 54 with five firefighters to find that the trash pile fire had grown considerably larger. Outside resources, including Liberty County Emergency Management and TCEQ were brought in to assist. North Liberty County VFD and Hardin VFD provided mutual aid on the fire in the form of tankers. The last Tarkington units left the scene after 21:00.
At app. 16:00, Tarkington firefighters were called to a report of a vehicle in the water in the Trinity River at SH105. TVFD responded with Booster 55 with two firefighters to find a Dodge Durango had slipped into the water while trying to unload a boat. All occupants of the Durango exited safely.
Saturday, June 11, 2005- TVFD was called to setup a LZ for SkyMed at the TISD practice field for the victim of a four-wheeler accident. TVFD responded with Booster 55 with two firefighters and Engine 54 with one firefighter.
Friday, June 10, 2005- Tarkington VFD was dispatched to a MVA at SH321 and SH105 near the Citgo station. TVFD responded with Unit 503 and Booster 55 with two firefighters.
Thursday, June 9, 2005- Tarkington firefighters were called to a MVA on FM787 app. 1/2 mile west of FM223 shortly before 13:00. TVFD responded with Engine 54 with two firefighters to find a car had left the roadway and the accident scene already cleared.
At app. 2:30, TVFD was dispatched to a report of an out-of-control grassfire on CR2281. TVFD responded with Booster 55 with two firefighters to find that a burn pile had gotten out-of-control, burning app. 1/4 acre. Liberty Sheriff's Office was called when the landowner became belligerent, refusing to allow the fire department units on his property to assure that the fire would not spread again.
At app. 16:30, Tarkington VFD was dispatched to a MVA on FM787 near the GP plant entrance. TVFD responded with Engine 54 with four firefighters, but were disregarded prior to arrival at the accident location.
At app. 22:00, TVFD was dispatched to setup a LZ for LifeFlight at the GP plant to transport a worker that had been injured. TVFD responded with Unit 502, Unit 503, Engine 54 with four firefighters, and Booster 55 with one firefighter.
Tuesday, June 7, 2005- Tarkington firefighters were called to a MVA on SH105 in front of Tarkington Exxon shortly after 16:00 involving three vehicles, two in a head-on collision and one rollover. TVFD responded with Unit 501, Unit 502, Unit 503, Engine 54 with two firefighters, Rescue 51 with one firefighter, and Booster 55 with one firefighter. One of the victims of the head-on collision was trapped in their vehicle and had to be removed using the TNT extrication tools, often called the "Jaws of Life", in a very difficult extrication involving the removal of the driver's-side door and the roof, then the use of the hydraulic spreaders to push the dash away from the driver's legs. This victim was then transported by SkyMed helicopter from a LZ set up near the accident scene. The roadway was shut down for over an hour while the accident was investigated and the vehicles removed.


Monday, June 6, 2005- Tarkington VFD was dispatched at app. 00:45 to provide mutual aid to Cleveland VFD, along with Splendora VFD, on a structure fire on US59 app. two miles south of Cleveland next to Singletree Citgo. TVFD responded with Engine 54 and a total of six firefighters.
At 12:30, Tarkington First Responders were called to CR2171 off of FM 787 for a 84-year old female experiencing numbness below the waist. TVFD responded with Rescue 51 with three firefighters.
Saturday, June 4, 2005- Tarkington First Responders were called to a report of a 49-year old female experiencing difficulty breathing on CR2323 off of FM1008. TVFD responded with Rescue 51 with three firefighters.
Thursday, June 2, 2005- At app. 22:45, dispatch requested that TVFD respond to multiple reports of explosions on Doc Howard Road. TVFD responded with TVFD responded with Unit 502, Engine 54 with five firefighters, and Booster 55 with two firefighters, spending over an hour searching, but unable to locate the source of the explosions. Liberty County Sheriff's deputies and Pct. 5 Constable Warren Despain also responded.
Tuesday, May 31, 2005- Tarkington VFD was called to setup a LZ for LifeFlight helicopter on SH105 at the Joe Edd Road for a stroke victim. TVFD responded with Unit 502 and Engine 54 with four firefighters.
